Muslim Woman: Islamic Society and Values

The social part of the Divine Revelation provides us with laws intended to guide the course of social evolution. Islam has developed a political Organization based on eternal principles of the Quran. Since these principles have their source not from any human intellect but delivered by Divine Wisdom, where men when obey them are obeying God but not any individual or system. In the Islamic society all men are equal in the eyes of the law. It is a community of free and equal persons, owing commitment to God and obeying His laws. But when analyze the scenario it comes up with another angle. We have seen that human being has two identities, the self and the body. The relationship between the two selves is close and intimate. But while the body is incessantly changing the self is getting stability. The ultimate spiritual basis of all life, as conceived by Islam is eternal and reveals itself in variety and change. A society based on such a conception of reality must reconcile in its life, the categories of permanence and change. It must possess eternal principles to regulate its collective life as a foothold in the world of perpetual change. But eternal principles, when they are understood to exclude all possibilities of change which according to the Quran is one of the greatest signs of God which tend to immobilize what is essentially mobile in its nature. The law laid down in the Quran is absolute and dynamic in nature to cater both permanence and change; None has the authority to make any change in these laws (6: 116)

Muslim Woman - Origin of Human Unity

And We have created you all from one breath of life, says the Quran. But the perception of life as an organic unity is a slow achievement which depends for its growth on a people’s entry into the main current of world events. This opportunity was brought to Islam by the rapid development of a vast empire. No doubt Christianity  long before Islam brought the message of equality to mankind but Christian Rome did not rise to the full apprehension of the idea of humanity as a single organism. As Flint rightly says, No Christian writer and still less of course, any other in the Roman Empire can be credited with having had more than a general and abstract conception of human unity. And since the days of Rome the idea does not seem to have gained much in depth and rootage in Europe. On the other hand the growth of territorial nationalism, with its emphasis on what is called national characteristics which has tended rather to kill the broad human element in the art and literature of Europe, it was quite otherwise with Islam. Here the idea was neither a concept of philosophy nor a dream of poetry. As a social movement the aim of Islam was to make the idea a living factor in the Muslim’s daily life and thus silently and imperceptibly to carry it towards fuller fruition.

Muslim Woman and Muslim Community

Many individuals come together to make a community. An Islamic life is to live as a community. To stay dispersed and to pursue ones own advantages and self interest is not the life of the Muslim, who has submitted to God. The question now arises that how can different individuals become one single community? How can separate Muslims be woven into the single fabric of an Islamic community?

Muslim Woman -Eid, Gift of a Ramadan

Every tribe, people or race throughout the world celebrates a festival of one sort or another. Muslims also celebrate some festive occasions on some days of the year. But the festival of Eid is one that we are commanded to celebrate in festivity, joy and happiness by Allah Almighty Himself ! This in itself portrays its importance.Inquiries from numerous places have been initiated to know as to the honor of which ceremony, the Eid-ul-fitr is celebrated and that what the purpose of this festival is. The answer tendered to this question is that at the eve of Ramadan – and that of its ending – Eid-ul-Fitr is, in deed, a sacred function of the annual celebration of the Quran’s revelation. Usually the festivals of jubilation and rejoicing are celebrated in the world for the change of the seasons or for establishing the monument of any person or for preserving any prominent event of history. But what Islam declares is this: The change of season takes place according to the Law of Allah; the human’s monuments can perish and the world’s events can be made to forget. But the message of Allah preserved in the Quran can never vanish – the charge of its preservation He got unto himself; He who is alive and can never die; is so lasting that He has neither any decadence, nor is destined to decay. This rejoicing Festival of Eid is the monument of the revelation of living and lasting Book of Allah, the Allah who is the Living and the Everlasting. Preparations were made all over the month for the celebration of this festival (those preparations were, in deed, the integral part of this Festival as well). Islam is the name of obedience to the Divine Laws – not the obedience by compulsion but the obedience from the core of the heart. It is the accomplishment of the Laws in such a way that a true sub-ordinate to these Laws can not even touch a thing, unlawful and unrecognized. It is he, in whose hands, no illegitimate loss can be rendered to the property, life, honor and chastity of any human. For the consolidation of this very passion of obedience, it has been ordered that in compliance to this Law, even the thing lawful and pleasing be left for some time so that there be never any casting of the eye to the thing unlawful and unrecognized. They were made habitual to bear the intense pangs of hunger and thirst all the day over so that they are addicted to pass smilingly and steadfastly through the extremely difficult stages of their life struggle. It was, as if, an Annual Training Camp in which provisions were made to revitalize the new inspirations in life; it was a refresher course, a memoria technica, to reinvigorate the memorandum, - that in which the direct link between Allah and man was refreshed. It was stock taking through which we had to evaluate the sum total of our deeds and consequences spread over the whole year to oversee as to what extent we have marched ahead on this scale in one year. When, after the labor of hard work and during the obedience of a complete month, growth in the tender feelings of heart, vision in eyes, sharpening in minds and invigoration in psyche were inculcated, they were ordered to assemble at a place so that they may sit jointly and contemplate as to what they have to do to achieve and perpetuate the life which is the characteristic feature of the party of those who follows the Laws of Allah (Party of Momineen); and that the contracts of which are vividly glistening, like the true diamonds, in every page of the Quran. As a result of this contemplation they may develop such a program, which their selected leader (Imam) may announce in his address. After that, their representatives with this decisive program may start going to the concrete capital of the Islamic Ummah (i.e. the House of Allah at Mecca) where, in the light of these various local programs, a common system is devised for the all Ummah. It is these – the various integers of this mirthful festival and the brief outline of its integral parts. Keep these in view and then reflect how these festivals on the basis of which there were living hopes bouncing on every facet of its vastness, and the fresh thrilling invigorating the psyche of human have gradually transformed into the icons of rituals. According to Allama Iqbal;

Muslim Woman - Human Beings and God

Just take a look at the universe and it will appear to be a collection of opposites. For example on one side is the night which covers everything in darkness and on the other side is the day which brightens everything by its light.Likewise among living beings, males are created alongwith females whose physical functions are different.This diversity is for the distribution of functions (labour). (Due to this distribution, the aims of your endeavors in social life are different. This is how the system functions so smoothly. However If you consider that this distribution of labour divides humanity into schisms, one having no connection with the other, then this is a misconception. If you superficially look at day and night, or the distribution between men and women, you will find that each one of them appears to be different from the other. However, if you look more closely, you will notice that both are linked with each other.They are branches of the same origin as well as facets of the same fact.Inspite of this distribution of labour, human beings are an indivisible unit.Therefore remember that whoever, considering all mankind to be one entity, gives out of his hardearned money for the nourishment of others but careful not to create unevenness in society. The only aims is the establishment and strengthening of the universal Order of Rabubiyyah (social & economic system) ordained by Supreme Sustainer (Allah Almighty / God).
